Take the hit

Take the hit

In all walks of life you see that two things that are horrible for each other only feed each other in following a vicious cycle. For instance, an egotistical guy and an insecure girl. A cause for depression and then the reaction to depression. They feed each other, and until one party takes the hit, the vicious cycle continues.

Did you ever have that person growing up that drove you absolutely nuts? The one that was so annoying and the more you reacted, the worst they got. Your wrong reaction only fed the cycle. Then you realized that if you just “take the hit” and be quiet, it is no fun for them and they shut up.

I have been thinking about this a lot lately. It seems that someone has to take the hit for a vicious cycle to stop. Jesus did it. Jesus took the hit for our sin, so we could be free from it.

But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. – Matthew 5:39

Is that what this verse means? Think about debt. If you do not sacrifice and give up some things that you are currently spending money on, you never can get out of debt. You take a financial hit to get out of debt.

What about war? If we do not retaliate to terrorists, will they stop? If we just absorb the hit, will it stop the cycle? On a national level that is a huge hit to just absorb. For those who have lost loved ones that is a huge hit to just absorb.

Here is a question, are we more naive in defending ourselves or more naive in not trusting God to take care of us?

Don’t try to read into what I think……I’m wrestling with this. I honestly do not know. That’s why I’m asking.
