I was gonna keep my mouth shut, but……..
Well, since my last post, things have gotten a little weird. Not just weird, but sad. I guess b/c my last post mentioned Obama, the Christian community freaked out. After posting, I immediately received an im with Barack Obama’s name spelled upside down. I tried to have a conversation, but there was no conversation, just hate. Of course, no one is man enough to actually comment on my blog so the world can see. It’s easier to hide behind a screen name so no one can find out who you are.
I struggled with this very thing the whole election and decided to keep my mouth shut, but I can’t do it anymore. I am not mad, I am righteously angered. More than anything though, I am sad and disappointed. Steven Dilla said it best when he sent a tweet on election night that said, “It is amazing how many Christians are sitting on the edge of their seats wondering if their world is going to fold tonight.”
This is not about who you voted for, this is about who you are living for.
This is about who your provider is. Is it Jehova Jireh or your country and government? This is about who you put your trust in.
What really topped it off for me is when a friend that I used to play on a worship team with posted a picture of an upside down American flag after Obama won. The caption underneath the upside down flag read, “Here ya go America, you deserve it.” So, now a Christian, American is the terrorist. Nice.
Here is why I am sad. We are believers. We are Christians! Our Provider is God, who says that man’s greatest wisdom is God’s dumbest thought! His ways are higher than ours. He is above and beyond and in control. Why in the world are we turning our backs on God, each other, our next President and even our country? We should be the ones carrying hope b/c our trust is in God, not in government, economy or a man.
Here is the bottom line. If you have a problem with what I am saying, you probably need to examine where your trust lies. You will most likely find that you trust in your thoughts, your intellect, your money, your government, or your country, more than you trust your Savior and His Word.
Even if you do not agree with me, the Bible still says that all authority is placed by God. That is the Truth about who God’s candidate is. God is not thinking red or blue, donkey or elephant. No matter who you voted for, whoever won is God’s candidate. As Christians, we are to pray for and honor our leaders because God set them in authority.
If God sets them in authority then it is God’s plan.
That is good news b/c if it is God’s plan than there is nothing in this world that has the power to stop what God wants to do in our country and our world!
Not terrorists, not the economy, and not even the most powerful man in the world, no matter who it is!
I am aware that there are many of you that probably feel the way I feel. We need to have the boldness to start conversations with each other and even those who are not Christians. The reality is that people who are not Christians are seeing the publicized reaction of the Christian community probably more clearly than the Christian community itself. We need to be righteously angered to stand up and be an example for the Truth of God’s Word beyond all the politics and worries of our great nation.
(deep breath) I am going to sleep good tonight!
