Here, have my thought (Part 1)

Over the next week or so I am going to post a few thoughts that are running through my brain. Mainly reoccurring thoughts that I am wrestling with or learning.

Here, have my thought
Here, have my thought

I have been studying leadership alot lately. It’s funny how there are so many people teaching on leadership that all say the same thing in different words. They are all saying the same thing, just packaged differently. For instance, they all say that character is the most important thing about leadership.

This got me thinking. There is something bigger that is holding leadership together than just one man’s opinion of it. There are principles that make leadership exactly that, leadership, no matter who is saying it or how it is expressed. Leadership never goes away, it’s always been around and it will remain intact as long as there is more than one person alive.

Jesus’ teachings are the same way. Jesus’ teachings about the Kingdom of God are old teachings that have survived all sorts of eras, political systems and leadership styles. Everything from the Dark Ages to the Roman Empire era to now.

Jesus’ teachings are based on principles. Principles are what have caused the kingdom of God to last through all different types of eras.

So here’s the question:

What is the church built on, or let me rephrase, what should the church be built on?

I am 25. It is easy for me to change. Things have changed so much in my lifetime. Change is part of my DNA. My generation has no trouble changing. Pop Culture has no trouble changing. In fact, it changes faster than ever now.

Why does the church have such a hard time changing? It seems the church periodically goes through identity crisis in who they are. You hear statements like, “we are a seeker church or Baptist church or charismatic church.”

Has the church built itself on movements or a specific expression of the principles of the Kingdom of God instead of the principles themselves? If we were built on the principles of the Kingdom of God, would we be able to transcend the changes in culture or expression just like the teachings of Jesus have?
